In an effort to increase our programs and services offered to our residents with special needs, Veterans Park District is pleased to announce its partnership with West Suburban Special Recreation Association. This partnership began at the start of 2021.
WSSRA provides recreational programs for adults and children who have physical impairment, a mental disability, or any other type of disability. Through WSSRA, residents of all ages can participate in year-round programming specifically designed to meet their individual needs.
WSSRA also provides inclusion services for any adult or child who requires special accommodations to participate in programs offered by VPD. This service can vary from program modifications, to behavior management support, to the placement of an inclusion aid.
Other special programs offered by WSSRA include Special Olympics, Lekotek toy lending, the Imaginarium Sensory Room, and Summer Day Camp. WSSRA supports the mission of Special Olympics through the participation in the following sports: Aquatics, Basketball, Bowling, Golf, Gymnastics, Softball, Track & Field, and Volleyball. Lekoteks are resource centers and play libraries for families with children who have disabilities or special needs. WSSRA’s Imaginarium is a sensory play room that can be rented for private play sessions.
WSSRA publishes their own seasonal Program Guide, available at all VPD facilities. To find out more about WSSRA, WSSRA website or call (847) 455-2100.
