As part of our ongoing commitment to providing quality recreational opportunities for residents, Veterans Park District recently completed renovations at Gouin Park in Franklin Park and Olsen Park in Melrose Park.
Gouin Park was renovated with assistance from the Department of Natural Resources through the Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) Grant. Improvements include new ADA-compliant wheelchair-accessible playground equipment, a poured-in-place rubber safety surface, a custom canopy-shaded picnic area, a concrete patio and walkway, an outdoor fitness equipment area, five LED decorative security lights, and extensive landscaping. The landscaping emphasizes native vegetation, including shrubs, grasses, and a butterfly garden. Additional features include park benches, picnic tables, and memorial brick pavers.
Olsen Park renovations feature a newly designed layout that includes ADA-compliant playground equipment, a poured-in rubber safety surface, a shaded canopy area, new benches, concrete pathways, enhanced decorative landscaping and a new decorative rod fence.
